Though some professions are thriving within the medical community, that’s not the case everywhere. Some states need to put more time and attention on their tactics for attracting talent as they face a very real shortage and possibly an epidemic if they can’t get the help that they need.

Massachusetts
Though they have a thriving specialist community, they are in a shortage of overall general practitioners. In spite of the fact that they have large medical facilities with great reputations, there is still a serious medical professional shortage occurring in this state. Though there is much underway in terms of efforts to attract top talent, the efforts seem to be falling short at least to date. So while specialty doctors are great, the overall trend is that there is a strong need for medical professionals here.

California
For some reason, this state seems to have a huge problem with attracting and maintaining quality nurses. They have a growing problem of nurses who have legal trouble pending against them in other states, and this is therefore affecting their supply of good quality nurses. This means that they need to fix the problem they are having with problematic nurses, but also means that they need to work hard at attracting top talent within nursing to the state as a whole. Without this, there is bound to be a terrible nursing shortage here.

New Jersey
The shortage of medical professionals overall is so bad that government officials are working on measures to protect against this. In the long run this means good things for the state as they are hopefully more successful at getting the medical professionals that they need. However in the meantime, this shortage can hurt patients who have very real needs that can’t be seen as they would in other states.

Minnesota
A nursing strike is never a good thing and this is proving to be true in this state. As a rather aggressive nursing strike lingers on, there is talk and concern over a historic walkout on the part of the nurses in the Twin Cities area. Though some may think that the tactics are overly aggressive, the reality is that this all results in an overall shortage for the medical community here. This hurts the nurses, but more importantly hurts the patient as well.
Though you would think that the medical profession is in high demand, there are some states that need a bit of attention. These states need some help now before patients really start to suffer.
